# Convert M4A to WAV

Turn voice memos and other M4A files into WAVs that any editor opens.

## AAC or Apple Lossless

An M4A is Apple's MP4 file with only sound in it. Most hold AAC, which keeps files small by leaving out detail you're unlikely to hear; some hold Apple Lossless, which keeps all of it. Voice memos, GarageBand exports, and songs bought on iTunes all end in .m4a.

Editing apps like WAV because every sample is right there, ready to cut and mix, and saving it again never costs quality. Convert to WAV once, do your editing, and turn the finished mix into an MP3 or M4A only at the end.

Free for the first hour of each file, 10 times a day per person, with no key or account. Uploads up to 100 MB, 2 at once from one address. The response is the result itself; a job that runs longer than about 30 seconds returns 202 with a link to check on it. With an API key (`-H "Authorization: Bearer $AUDO_API_KEY"`), omitting free runs the whole file with credits if the balance covers it, otherwise the free portion if quota remains. ## Options

Form fields with the same names as the MCP tool's inputs:

- `format`: The format to convert to: mp3, wav, m4a, flac, ogg, or opus. Default mp3.
- `bitrate_kbps`: The bitrate for mp3, m4a, ogg, or opus, in kbps (16 to 320), such as 128. Default: chosen for the format.
- `sample_rate`: The sample rate in Hz, such as 44100. Default: the input's.
- `channels`: mono or stereo. Default: the input's.

## Languages

Any language: it works on the sound, not the words.
