# Record computer audio: capture tab and system sound

Capture browser tab sound and desktop audio online, then download MP3 or WAV.

Captures sound playing in a browser tab or on the computer, with an optional microphone mix, saving as it goes, then trims and downloads as MP3 or WAV. It runs in the person's browser, so it's free with no limit, and there's no API call for it. A recording opens in the editor when it stops, where the person can trim it, download it, or run Audo's tools on it.

## How it works

1. Press Record and choose whether to mix your microphone in with the computer sound.
2. Select a browser tab or full screen in the prompt and tick Share tab audio or Share system audio.
3. Stop when the playback ends, trim the waveform, and download an MP3 or uncompressed WAV.

## Digital loopback capture without virtual cables

Audo's computer audio recorder lets you record computer audio, record internal audio, and capture browser tab or desktop system sound directly in your browser with no virtual audio driver, no install, and no sign-up. It strips out any video track automatically, exports clean MP3 or 16-bit WAV files, and keeps every byte on your computer unless you run an Audo tool.

Holding a phone or desk mic up to laptop speakers ruins sound quality because the acoustic path adds room reflection, tinny speaker frequency loss, and keyboard clatter. Capturing the digital stream from the browser tab or system mixer copies the exact samples playing through your sound card.

After stopping, the waveform opens immediately so you can slice out silence before the stream began, fade the ending, or normalize quiet passages. From the same card, you can transcribe webinars into timestamped notes or isolate dialogue from noisy broadcasts.

## For agents

The same edits on a file run as Audo's tools, through the free API or MCP: cut or keep time ranges with `cut_audio` (https://audo.ai/audio-cutter.md), set a whole file's loudness with `adjust_loudness`, and clean up the voice with `enhance_voice` or `remove_noise`. ## Questions

**Is it free?** Yes, always, with no sign-up and no limit. Audo runs it in your browser, so there's nothing to pay for.

**How do I record system audio or Chrome audio capture in the browser?** When the browser sharing window opens in Chrome, Edge, or Brave, pick the tab playing sound and check Share tab audio at the bottom, or pick Entire Screen and check Share system audio to record desktop audio.

**How can I record audio on Mac without installing loopback drivers?** To record audio on Mac without third-party audio routers, open Chrome, Edge, or Brave, choose the browser tab playing the stream or call, and tick Share tab audio. The digital stream is captured directly with zero speaker bleed.

**Can I record internal audio and my microphone at the same time?** Yes. Turn on the microphone option before starting so the recorder blends your voice with the computer output—useful when saving both sides of an interview, language lesson, or webinar.

**Why does the browser ask to share a tab or screen when I only want audio?** Web browsers guard internal sound behind the screen-sharing permission prompt so no site can listen silently. As soon as you stop, Audo discards any picture track and hands you pure sound as an MP3 or WAV.

**Can I turn the captured computer audio into a transcript or isolate speech?** Yes. Once the sound is on the timeline, you can send it straight to Transcribe audio for speaker-labeled text and captions, or run Voice isolator to strip background music from spoken clips.
