0. Download Audacity

You'll need to download audacity if you haven't already

1. Upload your audio

Upload your audio to the audacity software

2. Create a noise profile

Audacity requires you to isolate the background noise to create a “noise profile”. When you insert your audio on audacity, you might notice a straight line on the screen. These are probably background noises that were captured while recording. You are required to select that part with the selecting tool.

After selecting background noise, go up to <Effect> and click on <Noise reduction>.

Once you have done this process click on <Get noise profile> to filter out the background noise.

3. Apply Noise Reduction

You have to select the entire track, go back to noise reduction again to remove noise. You can select the amount of background noise you want to remove.

You can preview your audio by selecting the  <Preview> button. If you are not satisfied with the audio, you can increase the decibels until you get what you were looking for. Once you are satisfied with your track, your audio is good to go.

  • Allows samples editing

  • The background noise removal feature is not as powerful. Doesn’t work well for non-stationary noises like dogs barking, street traffic, anything that doesn’t have a repetitive sound profile

  • Noise removal feature can distort audio

  • Requires finding noise profile to remove background noise

  • Less user-friendly interface
