- Speaker 1
Welcome back to the show! So, you recorded your whole first album in your kitchen?
- Speaker 2
I did, yeah. Honestly, the kitchen had the best sound in the flat.
- Speaker 1
Wait, really? Better than a studio?
- Speaker 2
Well, it was free. We hung blankets over the windows, waited for the street to go quiet, and pressed record.
- Speaker 1
I love that.

Text, captions, and word times
Audo transcribes audio (WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WebM, AIFF) and video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI) to text in 60 languages, labels up to 8 speakers, and times every word. It's free for the first 2 minutes of each file, 3 times a day, with no sign-up.
The text is for reading, quoting, and searching an interview or a meeting. SRT captions upload to YouTube and most video players, and VTT is the web's caption format. The word times give the start and end of every word, which helps when you cut a recording by what was said.
Speakers are numbered in the order they first speak, since a recording doesn't say who's who: replace Speaker 1 with a name wherever you use the text. For the best transcript, start from a clear recording, and run a noisy one through Remove noise or Audio enhancer first.
Questions
Is there a free way to transcribe audio?
Yes. Transcribing audio or video to text with Audo is free for the first 2 minutes of each file, 3 times a day, with no sign-up. Whole files are $0.02 a minute ($1.20 an hour), with no subscription — see pricing.
How do I transcribe a video to text?
Add the video at the top of this page, just like a recording: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI all work. You get the same text and captions as you would from audio.
Can I transcribe a YouTube video?
Yes, from the video file: Audo can't open a YouTube link. For your own video, download it from YouTube Studio and add it here. The SRT captions upload straight back to YouTube, or you can make captions alone with SRT file generator.
Can ChatGPT or Claude transcribe audio?
Yes, with Audo added to it. Attach the recording in the chat and ask for a transcript: the text comes back from Audo, with speaker labels and captions. Add Audo to your assistant once, and it's there in every chat.
How long does it take?
A 2-minute recording is usually ready in under 10 seconds.
What do I get?
Four files: the text, SRT and VTT captions, and the time of every word. Um and uh stay in, so the text matches what was said. Switch off Keep filler words to leave them out.
Does it label speakers?
Yes. When more than one person talks, each gets a label, like Speaker 1 and Speaker 2, up to 8 people. The labels are in the text and in VTT captions, and Podcast transcription is set up for full multi-host episodes. No caption mixes two people. SRT captions have no names, so they stay clean on YouTube.
Which languages does it work in?
60 languages. It finds the language by itself, or you can pick it from the list.
