A clean recording

The room matters more than the microphone. Soft things soak up echo, so a small room with curtains, a sofa, or clothes sounds closer than a big empty one. Turn off fans and close the window before you start.

Sit about a hand's width from a headset or phone microphone, a little further from a laptop's. Watch the level beside the microphone: Sounds good means it hears you well. If it says Too quiet, move closer or pick another microphone from the list.

Already recorded somewhere noisy? Audio enhancer makes a voice sound like it was recorded in a studio, and Remove noise clears the background while keeping your voice as it is.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes, always, with no sign-up and no limit. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to pay for.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It records in your browser, on a computer or a phone. The first time you press Record, your browser asks to use your microphone: choose Allow. If you said no by mistake, allow it in the browser's settings for this site and press Try again.

What if my browser closes while I'm recording?

Your recording is saved on this device as you talk, every second. Open the voice recorder again in the same browser and it offers to bring the recording back, up to the moment it stopped.

Where does my recording go?

Nowhere, unless you send it. It stays in your browser while you record and edit, and downloads straight to your computer or phone. It goes to Audo only when you pick a tool such as Audio enhancer.

Can I pause and carry on?

Yes. Pause, then Resume, and it's still one recording. After you stop, Record more adds a new part to the end, so a long take can be made in pieces.

Which should I download, MP3 or WAV?

MP3 for sending and posting, since it's small. WAV for editing in another app, since it keeps every detail of the recording.

How long can I record?

As long as you like. Up to about an hour opens straight in the editor on a computer, and about 20 minutes on a phone. A longer recording still downloads whole, and Cut audio trims it.
