No. They're different formats: an M4A usually holds AAC sound, in the file format Apple uses for iTunes songs and voice memos. MP3 is older and plays on more players, car stereos, and upload forms.

At the same bitrate, M4A's AAC sound is usually a little better. Converting can't add anything back, so choose MP3 for where it plays, not for the sound.

Not songs from an Apple Music subscription: they're protected, so they only play in Apple's apps. Songs bought on the iTunes Store aren't protected, and convert like any other M4A.

About as big as the M4A. A song bought on iTunes at 256 kbps becomes a 256 kbps MP3. For a smaller file, pick a lower bitrate under More options.
